What is Dragon & Tiger Chi Gong?

It is a series of seven movements that work on the same energy channels used by acupuncturists.

Instead of using needles, practitioners stimulate the channels indirectly by moving their hands along the energy field that surrounds the body.

A complete set of Dragon and Tiger can be done in 15 to 20 minutes.

What are some specific benefits of Dragon & Tiger?

The most immediate benefits of Dragon & Tiger are to boost your energy and to relieve stress.

Over time, it also improves balance, flexibility and coordination. With longer practice it can heal or ameliorate chronic conditions such as back pain, arthritis, irritable bowel, repetitive stress injuries, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression.

In China, Dragon and Tiger is used to treat cancer, and to ameliorate the effects of radiation and chemotherapy treatments. 15 to 20 million people have done Dragon and Tiger there already, to help combat cancer or to mitigate the physical and emotional effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

Will I be able to do it?

Of the hundreds of forms of Chi gong, Dragon & Tiger is one of the easiest for beginners to gain quick benefits.

Almost anyone can do it, from athletes and martial artists to people recovering from injuries or living with disabilities. While Dragon and Tiger is usually practiced standing, it can also be done sitting or lying down.

Even when done imperfectly and by people who have limited energy or range of motion,  who are sick or wheelchair bound, this exercise is immensely beneficial.

What is the history of Dragon & Tiger?

Dragon & Tiger was for 1,500 years a closely guarded secret of Buddhist monks at the Shaolin temple in the mountains of Central China. It’s a self-healing medical Chi gong (Qi gong or chi kung) system based on acupuncture.

After the Communist revolution, one of the monks taught the practice to his niece, Zhang Jai Hua.

She, in return, taught the practice to thousands of students, including my teacher, Bruce Frantzis, who taught several of his senior instructors in Germany, from whom i regularly learn and study. Take a look at their websites here or visit my ” Links ” page.
